Song of the week: Rodrigo

Cuarteto or Cuartetazo is a rhythm that was born in Córdoba, Argentina. It got its name for its traditional composition of four instruments: violin, piano, accordion, and bass. It is characterized by its fast paced and upbeat tempo. Although Cuarteto does not hail from Buenos Aires, it gave birth to the B.A. tropical scene or Bailanta and also provided an alternative to Argentine rock as an identifying national musical style.

Rodrigo was the Cuarteto dreamboat. His edgy style and ‘tall, dark, and handsome’ thing made the ladies go wild. Unfortunately he came to an early demise in a car accident at the age of 27. In his short time Rodrigo took Cuarteto from the province of Córdoba and brought it to the national level.

If you ever get the chance to dance to a little Cuarteto, don’t let the opportunity pass you buy. It is fun and relatively easy to wiggle your hips to the nearly tropical rhythm. We suggest you give it a go 🙂

Enjoy!
