Why Study Spanish in Buenos Aires with Mente Argentina – Amy, USA

Amy from the U.S. joined us  for our Intensive Spanish Program in 2019. Here is her story…

As a resident in the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics I have thought a lot about my professional goals over the last few years. I have dabbled in in-patient and out-patient settings, worked with Veterans and pediatrics, but my time that I spent abroad and working with international organizations is one area where my passions spark fire. While I was in medical school I had the incredible opportunity to go to Guatemala with a group of rehabilitation professionals. We provided care for underrepresented and under-served populations in the area. It was an amazing two weeks and I left knowing that I would be back sooner than later.

I am now a member of the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics, and one of my major career goals is to establish and foster sustainable P&O clinics in under-served communities. In an effort to increase the sustainability of these clinics, it is my goal to foster relationships with the professionals already working in each country. The exchange of knowledge between clinicians of different countries, backgrounds, resources, and environments will drive our field to astonishing height and I cannot wait to be part of this process.

A limitation that I have come across this far in my career is verbal communication with these professionals. Enter Mente Argentina! Mente’s Intensive Spanish program will help me learn the Spanish language and the culture in Buenos Aires. I plan to utilize what I learn in this program to connect to my Spanish-speaking patients at home and abroad. Knowledge and communication help make the world a smaller place and I am excited to tie my passions together.
