Liz Waller: an internship success story

-

Liz Waller had a passion for Marketing all throughout college. Although she graduated as a Political Science major in spring 2013 from Tulane, Waller worked in the marketing departments of various companies during summers, including Make a Wish. In September, she came to Buenos Aires through Mente Argentina for a Marketing Internship at Oasis Collections.

Oasis Collections, born in 2009, is a unique hospitality company, which manages over 600 high-end, short-term rentals for apartments, homes, and villas. They also have private members’ clubs. This company has rental properties in Buenos Aires, Cartagena, Florianopolis, Miami, Punta del Este, Rio de Janeiro, Bogota, Medellin, and Sao Paulo. The original Oasis Clubhouse is in a hidden location in Buenos Aires. Oasis Collections, as a brand, holds an air of exclusivity, as all of their rentals, clubhouses, events, and services are of top notch quality. Oasis Collections provides a hospitality service, which includes assistance from people in the area, an Oasis Concierge, and special access to the Clubhouse and other exclusive events. Oasis is truly growing quickly.

After only a month of interning at Oasis, Liz’s position expanded, and she became the Assistant to the Co-Founder & CEO, Parker Stanberry, as well as Marketing Intern. This full time internship always left her with more than enough to do every day. One of Liz’s main roles in the marketing field was checking internet content and ensuring that the brand remains consistent. She also oversaw that the internet content was tracking back to the Oasis Collections website and turning into reservations. Waller and the other interns became good friends with ease. The Buenos Aires office is very young and filled with wonderful energy. Enhancing the ‘buena onda’ amongst staff is also the excitement over the ongoing success of the company. “It makes you want to work even harder when you can see results. Even since I have been interning here, I have seen the company grow so much. I watched it happen in real time,” said Waller.

walla 2Recently, Waller was offered a full-time marketing position at Oasis Collections, which will begin full force in January. (her first full time job!) “It was strange making the decision and commitment to stay,” admits Liz, who now has to get rid of her apartment in NYC and find a new one here. “Everything has changed, but I am very excited.” She is going home for over a month to tie los ends and see friends in family, then coming back to Buenos Aires in January to start her new position.

After over two months in the city as an intern, Liz feels like this experience has truly allowed her to live in Buenos Aires. She has a routine. She takes the same bus each day; everyone knows her name at her favorite lunch spot and neighborhood laundry mat. But now that her time here is no longer temporary and Liz feels like she will finally have time to try all of the restaurants and activities she never had time for, and take her time getting to know the city better.
