A porteño shoeshine

Argentina is famous for it’s quality leather products.  This tradition of quality craftsmanship began with the Gauchos from the west of the Capital Federal. Throughout the city, the adventurous tourist can find great deals on all sorts of leather goods including bags, belts, coats, gloves, and shoes.   Along the famed Florida st. you can find a wonderful selection of products as well.   And what a better way to strut your “zapatos” than to get an illustrious shoeshine.

Along Florida Street one can turn just about every corner and find a “lustrada especial” or a shoeshine.  It’s important to note that not every lustrada is the same.  Prices can range from 5 pesos ($1.31 USD) to 20 pesos ($5.26 USD) and this doesn’t include tip.  If you decide to add a fresh gloss to your shoes before going to a Milonga (a tango evening), feel free to brush up on your Spanish with a true Porteño.  There are countless numbers of Lustradores to choose from and the value they add to your shoes will help your day shine.

Argentine author Gucci Slogan wrote:  “Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.”  Such is still the case on Florida Street.
