Weekend Highlights: January 3-5

It’s 2020, the beginning of a new decade. Hard to believe, right? Happy New Year from all of us at Mente Argentina! As most of the residents of Capital go on vacation in January, the events for this weekend are… limited, which means this weekend is your opportunity to take advantage of the nice weather and do some outside activities!

Before starting with the weekend highlights, the following list includes a few interesting palces to visit while enjoying being outside:

  • Puerto de Frutos – Sarmiento 160, Tigre. Saturday & Sunday, 10am – 7pm. *You must take the train to get here, see post for directions*
  • Bosques de Palermo – Av. Infanta Isabel 410. Monday – Sunday, 8am – 5pm.
  • Jardín Botánico – Av. Santa Fe 3900. Open frpm 9:30am – 6:45pm. (Closed on Monday’s and Tuesday’s)
  • Feria de Recoleta – Av. del Libertador 1400. Saturday & Sunday, 11am- 8pm.
  • Feria de San Telmo  – Defensa 120. Sunday, 10am – 5pm.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 3

Extrawurst – German Food Tasting

This food tasting will feature various beers (of course) and several traditional German foods, such as bratwurst. Verano Plop!

Fiesta Plop is one of the most popular drag shows in the city. Each week, Plop offers a party with a different theme- for this week it is SUMMER! During the first hour of the party, there will be a 2 for 1 promotion for drinks at the bar. In true drag queen fashion, the dancers usually start their performance a little later than expected. The party usually begins between 2am-3:30am and ends at 6am! McDonald’s is just across the street for your breakfast convenience. 😉

SATURDAY, JANUARY 4

Spanglish Karaoke Night

It’s finally time for karaoke at Spanglish! If you love singing (or love watching other people attempt to do so), head on over to Selina Bar to throw back a few drinks and get down to boogie. The concept of karaoke at a language event is an attempt to “break the ice” in an atmosphere with different cultures and languages.

International Barcrawl

This barcrawl is an opportunity to meet people from all over the world… and also part at 3 different bars before finishing the night at a club. The theme is the Roaring 20’s so grab your best costume and join the fun. The entry fee is 300 pesos, which includes 2 hours of free pizza, 1 free beer, body paint, discounts at the bar, and free entry to a club. All this fun will also include, beer pong, Jenga, and Flip Cup.

Milonga at La Viruta

La Viruta is a tango club in Palermo that encourages dancers and spectators from all different backgrounds to gather and enjoy the art of dance. This milonga begins almost at midnight and will not end until about 6 am.

Tango Class & Milonga

This is an event for emerging students (from beginner to intermediate) who want to enter into the world of tango. Each class, which begins at 6pm, is divided into three parts: stretching, technique, and practice. At 8pm, you will have the opportunity to dance to live tango bands, as well as the possibility to see some shows with surprising dancers.
