Pechito: a buenos aires legend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The problem of homelessness, as in most big cities, is not foreign to the streets of Buenos Aires.\u00a0 On man, however, has changed the face of people who are homeless for the people of Buenos Aires.\u00a0 Alejandro \u2018Pechito\u2019 Ferreiro was not your average guy who lives on the street.\u00a0 Pechito, 40 years old, lived at the entrance of Banco Frances on Scalabrini Ortiz and Santa Fe in Palermo for twelve years.\u00a0 On the sidewalk, Pechito resided with a fully functioning cable tv, comfortable mattress, his two dogs, radio, lounge chair, and recently a karaoke machine.\u00a0 He also decorated the wall around his mattress with various pictures and posters.\u00a0 Pechito cleaned the sidewalk around his area each morning and was often found smoking while watching television, or listening to the radio.\u00a0 He also burned incense almost every day to keep his area smelling nice for pedestrians.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.menteargentina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/pechito-singing-in-suit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1862\" alt=\"pechito singing in suit\" src=\"https:\/\/www.menteargentina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/pechito-singing-in-suit.jpg\" width=\"299\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Every so often, Pechito assisted people with paperwork who were short on time at the bank.\u00a0 At one time, he was a construction worker, but lost his job and apartment due to drug addiction.\u00a0 However, once he was homeless, Pechito says he stopped taking drugs.\u00a0 Pechito died of a lung infection in Hospital Rivadavia.\u00a0 Pechito was ill for months prior to his death, however he refused to go to a homeless shelter or hospital, because he could not bare to leave his dogs.\u00a0 People have taken both of his dogs into safe homes since his death.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.menteargentina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/pechito-and-girl.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1864\" alt=\"pechito and girl\" src=\"https:\/\/www.menteargentina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/pechito-and-girl-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.menteargentina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/pechito-and-girl-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.menteargentina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/pechito-and-girl.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pechito was a beloved neighbor to those who lived and worked near his corner on Scalabrini Ortiz, only blocks from the Mente Argentina office.\u00a0 It is said, that he once saved money and bought a young girl who lived nearby a bike.\u00a0 It is evident from the cards and vast amount of flowers that he was loved by a large number of people.\u00a0 A symbolic funeral was held by his mattress, as well.\u00a0 Pechito is missed by many in BA, but he lives on as a legend.\u00a0 His generousity and kindness set a president in Palermo.\u00a0 Even though he had very little, Pechito made the most of his surroundings and assisted others in need.\u00a0 He did not take anything for granted.\u00a0 We can all learn a little bit from Pechito and his love for life each day.\u00a0 He is held dear in the hearts of the people of Palermo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.menteargentina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/pechito-singing.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium
