Los Fabulosos Cadillacs combine rock with influences including ska, reggae and other Latin American rhythms. Their music is a useful way to hear how an Argentine band can move across styles while retaining a recognizable identity.

Formed in 1985, the band’s catalogue includes El león, Vasos vacíos and Fabulosos calavera. Matador became a major point of international recognition. Begin with a recording, then follow the albums rather than treating a single hit as the entire career.

Listen for the interplay between voice, bass, percussion and brass. Notice whether the arrangement feels like a march, a dance groove or something changing between sections. Compare a studio recording with a live version if one is available.

The original Mente feature’s media are retained below. A recording illustrates a musical moment; it does not promise that the artist is currently performing in Buenos Aires.
