A song about Buenos Aires can offer a different way into the city from a sightseeing checklist. Rafa Pons’s “Buenos Aires” is a good starting point for combining music, curiosity about the city and Spanish listening practice.

Pons is a Spanish singer-songwriter, not an Argentine musician. His connection here is the city he sings about. That outside perspective makes the song a useful companion for someone building their own relationship with Buenos Aires.

The Barcelona-born musician works across singer-songwriter music and rock. In an interview with Argentina’s Radio Nacional, he discussed his work during a visit to the country; the station also highlighted his connection with Buenos Aires and the song he dedicated to it.

A song about the city is not an indication that the artist is currently performing there.

The original article featured the official music video below. Start by watching it without trying to translate every line. Pay attention to how the images and the voice shape your impression of the city.

Listen to “Buenos Aires”
