Whether or not you might be tediously studying the irregular subjunctive Spanish verbs, working on an endless math problem for a physics class whilst studying abroad in Buenos Aires, or simply reading a book, Buenos Aires offers an array of quaint cafes to get out of the apartment. The following are representative of their respective neighborhoods and come fully equipped with quirky interior detailing and wifi (for all of you computer toting chaps!)
In Palermo café Oui Oui, located at Nicaragua 6068, is a charming café with a summery terrace. Located in trendy Palermo Soho, Oui Oui serves up Italian and French inspired menus of the day as well as a wide selection of pastries, teas, coffees and juices if you aren´t up for a full sit down meal. If you are more interested in food, Buenos Aires also offers a high quality selection of cooking classes.
If coffee and pastries isn´t really your thing, head down to Recoleta where you can find the Tea Connection. The Tea Connection specializes in loose leaf teas from around the world (try the infusion tea from South Africa!) as well as fresh and healthy snacks. Tea Connection will leave you rejuvenated and feeling refreshed. Tea Connection has multiple locations however the one in Recoleta is located at Montevideo 1655.
Heading further south into San Telmo, cafes that have been preserved for generation are local hangouts for artists and writers. One that has recently been renovated (though you wouldn´t know it unless someone told you!) is Bar La Poesia. This space was popular with writers in the 80´s but went through a rough time in the 90´s, however in the new renovations age of today, one wouldn´t know that they weren´t back in the 1980´s hang out, all with original décor!
In the same neighborhood a few blocks down, one of the oldest café/bars called Bar Federal, which opened its doors in 1864. Today the café is still a popular one among locals and foreigners and like Bar La Poesia, also sports original decorating. Furthermore, they serve up tasty traditional argentine favorites (aka meat) and don’t forget to try the Fernets, another specialty of theirs!
So be it tea or be it Fernets, go try out some of these trendy cafés that Buenos Aires has to offer. There´s nothing better than a cortado and a book together!
