Sumo brought a distinctive mix of post-punk, reggae and rock into Argentina’s 1980s scene. Luca Prodan’s voice and the band’s arrangements remain useful entry points for hearing that period beyond its better-known pop sounds.
Context for the Recording
The group formed in Córdoba in 1981 and became associated with the Buenos Aires-area scene. Prodan died on December 22, 1987, not in 1985 as the old article stated. The musicians’ subsequent paths included Divididos and Las Pelotas.

Compare the bass line, guitar texture and vocal delivery. The use of English and Spanish can itself become part of the listening task: notice how a change of language affects the sound without assuming every song serves the same purpose.
