Most students can determine their visa requirements by answering two quick questions.
Check Your Argentina Visa Requirements
Two quick questions: your passport and how long you plan to stay in Argentina.
The first key question is whether your passport is visa-exempt for Argentina or not. The second is how long you plan to stay.
If your passport is visa-exempt, you can usually enter Argentina without applying for a visa in advance. This gives you flexibility whether you plan to stay for a short program or continue into a longer academic experience.
If your passport is not visa-exempt, you will generally need to apply for a visa before traveling.
For programs longer than 180 days, students typically apply for a student visa regardless of passport.
Use the checker below for the full explanation based on your passport and your planned length of stay.
Up to 90 Days
Students holding visa-exempt passports can usually enter Argentina without applying for a visa in advance and receive a 90-day tourist stay on arrival.
Students with non-exempt passports generally need to apply for a visa before traveling.
90 to 180 Days
Students with visa-exempt passports typically have several options: extend their stay locally, renew their entry with a short trip, or apply for a student visa before traveling.
Students with non-exempt passports generally need a visa before arrival.
More Than 180 Days
For stays longer than 180 days, students usually apply for a student visa regardless of passport.

International students in Argentina generally follow one of two residency paths depending on how long they plan to study and the type of academic program they join.
Shorter academic stays typically fall under transitory residency, while longer academic programs follow the temporary student residency path.
Designed for shorter academic stays of up to 12 months, this residency path is commonly used for Spanish language programs, exchange experiences, and other non-degree academic programs.
Temporary student residency applies to students enrolled in longer academic programs, typically lasting 12 months or more, such as bachelor's degrees, graduate programs, or other extended university studies.
