Olivia's experience with Mente Argentina

Olivia, a junior from Bennington College, spent her semester in Buenos Aires taking drawing, anatomy drawing and other visual arts classes as extension courses, alongside people of all ages, mostly Argentines, so all her classes were in Spanish. Coming from a school in the middle of nowhere, the huge, lively city was a shock at first, but she has grown to love that there is always something to do, from dance events to people everywhere doing something. Arriving in winter turned out to be mild: a light coat was enough. She enjoys Mente's twice-weekly events and a coordinator she says is great fun, with museum visits and meriendas in the park giving her a rhythm of exploring with fellow students. She also values the freedom to pursue other opportunities on her own.

Hello, my name is Olivia. I am a junior. I go to school in the States. I am doing drawing and anatomy drawing classes, and a lot of visual arts classes as well. I am in extension courses right now, which is kind of fun, so I am with people of all ages. I am mostly with Argentinians, so all my classes are in Spanish, and I just get to talk in Spanish and listen in Spanish a lot. I have lived in cities and kind of not in cities. My school is really in the middle of nowhere. There is nothing there, so this was kind of a shock for me. It is so huge and lively, which I have grown to like a lot, because there is always something to do. There is always some dance thing going on. Everyone is kind of doing something. The city has a lot of life. I did come technically in the dead of winter, but it is not the dead of winter, so that was fine. A light coat and you are good. Mente has been great. There are events all the time, twice a week. The coordinator is so much fun, and we all have a blast with her. We go to museums and have a merienda, which is like a snack in the park. That has been so enjoyable, just to have that rhythm of going out and seeing something with a group of people who are also studying here and doing something different here. I have really enjoyed my experience, and now I am going to finish my semester. Being here is nice because you have the opportunities to do other things if you want, not through Mente.
