The University of Buenos Aires is the largest university in Argentina and one of the most respected in Latin America. It has thirteen schools, around 300,000 students and four Nobel Prize winners among its graduates and professors.

Its Foreign Language Department also teaches Spanish to students from abroad. More than 20,000 people study languages there every year.

For international students who want to enroll in undergraduate or graduate programs at Argentine universities, including UBA.

Intermediate Spanish required
High school diploma for undergraduate programs, bachelor’s degree for graduate programs
1, 3 or 6 months, or a full academic year. Start any Monday
The academic year runs March to December, with intakes in March or July–August
Admission and enrollment guidance, translations, visa help and housing

University Spanish Program

Learn Spanish in a university setting and earn academic credit. UBA is one of three host universities you can choose.

No Spanish required. A placement exam sets your level
4 to 40 weeks, with start dates every month
At UBA: 10 hours per week through the UBA language-school pathway

Studying at UBA: frequently asked questions

Can I study at the University of Buenos Aires in English?

UBA undergraduate and graduate courses are taught in Spanish. University Start Up asks for an intermediate Spanish level, and UBA graduate programs need a high level. If you are not there yet, the University Spanish Program and the Summer Program accept students with no Spanish.

Do I have to apply to UBA on my own?

With University Start Up, Mente Argentina guides you through choosing a program, the application, translations and enrollment, and helps with your student visa. Acceptance into the Mente Argentina program comes after we review your documents. It is not admission to a university you choose.

Can I earn academic credit for Spanish courses at UBA?

Yes. University Spanish and Summer students receive an official transcript from their host university and a Mente Argentina certificate. As a reference, a 4-week block can represent about 3–8 U.S. semester credits or 6–16 ECTS credits. Your home institution decides how they apply.

Is there a semester program at UBA?
