Mente Argentina
Michaela's Volunteer Experience in Buenos Aires
Michaela's experience with Mente Argentina
Michaela spent a month with Mente Argentina on the volunteer program, looking after children while their mothers attended cooking and nutrition classes and doctor's appointments. She loved the time with the kids and the bond that grew stronger day by day. On arrival, Mente gave her an orientation covering the city, getting around and transport, along with a mobile phone and a SUBE card. She stayed at a student residence in a perfect location, next to buses, good restaurants and the supermarket, and loved it: the other students were great, and she made many friends she still keeps in touch with. A highlight was the woman everyone calls Mama, a mother figure who cooks breakfast and dinner and is always there to listen, and whom they will miss very much. She enjoyed Argentine culture, living in Buenos Aires, being independent and learning new vocabulary.

Hola, I'm Mika from Sydney, Australia, and I was with Mente Argentina for a month. I did a volunteer program, and I looked after the children while the mothers had classes on cooking and nutrition and appointments with doctors. I really enjoyed the volunteer program. It was really great to spend time with the children, and as the days went on we kept growing a stronger bond with the kids. When I first arrived in Buenos Aires, they gave me an orientation and told me all I needed to know about the city, how to get around, and the transport. They gave me a mobile phone and a SUBE card, and it was really great. They organized for me to stay at a student residence in a perfect location, next to the buses, really nice restaurants, and the supermarket. I loved it at the residence. All the students are really great and really nice. I made lots of new friends, and we still stay in touch even though they've left. We have a lady we all call Mama, because she's like a mother figure. She cooks dinner for us and she makes breakfast for us, and she's the best. She's always there to listen to us when we need to talk, and we're going to miss her so much. I've really enjoyed the Argentinian culture, living in Buenos Aires, being independent, and learning all the new vocabulary. I've really enjoyed this experience.
