Mente Argentina
Sidney Bowie's Wine Experience in Buenos Aires
Sidney Bowie's experience with Mente Argentina
Sidney, from Southern California, came to Buenos Aires with dad for a two-month wine program, living in Palermo, a location Sidney says couldn't have been better. The living situation brought together people from all over the world, offered chances to practice Spanish and turned into a close group of friends. Sidney joined many Mente activities: a day in Tigre, a drum show, and a trip to Colonia, where a short tour, a lighthouse climb, a wine tasting and a sunset on the beach made for one of the first and most beautiful days of the stay. As an art history student, Sidney loved the city's museum night, when over 100 museums opened free until the early hours, followed the next evening by an aerial tango show. Having worried about getting lost in the city, Sidney found that Mente was there for whatever came up, from everyday travel concerns to the best places to go. The wine tip: in Argentina you have to drink Malbec, and the wine teacher's farewell gift was a fantastic bottle of it.

My name is Sidney. I'm from Southern California. I came with my dad to do a two-month wine program. I went to this thermal water spa for the day. Swimming in the river was nice, and the ambience was amazing. I lived in Palermo. I couldn't have picked a better location. I thought I had been here two months, I know, but I really couldn't have lived somewhere better. I loved the people I met in Argentina. I can look at the world, and there are not a lot of people that way. I had some chances to practice my Spanish in my living situation, with people from all over the world, and I really loved the people I met there. Some of them were with Mente, some of them not, but I hung out with them all day. We did the basics, and we were all really close. We were all doing things around. I did a lot of Mente activities. I did the day in El Tigre. I did Colonia. I did a drum show, and that was amazing. We got like a 40-minute tour, and I am not a big tour fan, but it was the perfect amount to know just enough to spend the day there. Then we climbed the lighthouse and spent the afternoon. I went to a really great wine tasting place there, then sat by the beach for the sunset and took the ferry back to Buenos Aires. It was a beautiful day, one of the first things I did here. What I love about Buenos Aires is that you can always find something to do. Every night there is something. For example, this past weekend, on Saturday, I went to the museum night, and over 100 museums all through the city were open through the night until like three in the morning. That was free. I love the museum experience, and I study art history, so I got to see a lot of museums, and that night was really fun. The following night I went with one of my friends from that day to an aerial tango show. I can even find something completely different to do. I didn't get to do half the things I would have wanted to. You could spend six months and still not get to see and do everything. I was just worried that I would get lost in the city, but with Mente they are there for you no matter what you need. It is nice to be able to email someone. Even normal travel concerns that come up, it is nice to have someone that you can go to and not just have to figure it out on your own. They always know the best places to do things and the best places to go for help. If you are drinking Argentine wine, you have to have Malbec. My wine teacher, as my farewell gift, gave me a free bottle. It was a Malbec, and it was fantastic. I don't mind that one.
